As I said on my first post I'm a real big fan of our native Red Squirrel but like most animals they need our help.
WHATS THE PROBLEM?
Grey squirrels were brought to the Uk from North America and put on to large estates for the rich to have a change from the Red squirrel. But what they didn't know was that the Grey squirrel was immune to a virus known as Pox Virus or Squirrel pox which the red squirrel wasn't so when they fought over food and territory the Red squirrels came in contact with the disease which can causes them blindness, scabs and swelling which is usually fatal and is the main reason for Red squirrel decline in the Uk.
WHAT CAN YOU DO?
Report red squirrel sightings
Controlling grey squirrel populations by using traps.
